Playstyle Selection
Choose a Playstyle to begin playing. You can press on this screen to open up the tutorial or the online manual.
To pick up additional content, press / to access the Nintendo eShop.
Single Player
Go on an Adventure or play against CPU opponents in Battle!
Local Multiplayer
All modes in Single Player are also available in Local Multiplayer!
Take part in an Adventure with friends and family or compete against them in Battle on a single Nintendo Switch™ console!
✼ Each player will require a controller.
Hop online, and play Adventure and Battle with others!
✼ Up to two players can play on one console.
Local Communication
Connect up to four consoles together and play Adventure or Battle together!
✼ Up to two players can play on one console.
✼ To play using Local Communication, all players must have their games updated to the latest version. If you are having difficulty connecting, try updating your title first.
Warning Regarding Multiplayer
Battle Mode is not available for the following Playstyles.
(Adventure will still be playable.)
● Local Multiplayer with three or four players
● Online Play with two players
● Local Communication with two players
All Playstyles feature the same Main Menu screen. Feel free to change up the camera angle or the characters that appear!
Each character has a unique ability. Try monkeying around with them to see what they can do!

Compete against other players in a bunch of fun game modes.
Style
Style your characters with a-peel-ing clothes and accessories from the Shop!
You can also save your favorite outfits and edit them later!
Shop
Spend your hard-earned points here to get brand-new Style Items and effects for Photo Mode!
Missions
See what Missions are available and how to clear them.
Completing Missions will earn you points to use in the Shop.
Memories
Revisit cutscenes and levels from Adventure, or unwind by jamming out to Music and reading your Journal.
Options
Adjust the General, Control Menu, Display, Audio, Button Configuration, Chat Wheel, and Language settings.
Adventure
Get rollin’ to the goal in all kinds of levels!
Story
Follow the monkeys on a journey across wondrous Worlds, which feature a variety of Stages to clear.
By clearing all of the Stages in a World, you’ll be able to move on to the next World.
Story can be played in Single Player or Local Multiplayer.
Time Attack
Compete for the fastest total clear time on a specific World in this Single Player mode!
You can pick any World from Story Mode that you’ve already explored.
Try uploading your records online to see how you rank! You can also race against the ghost of a specific record!
✼ To be ranked on the leaderboards, you will need to update to the latest version of the game.
Tilt the Stage and roll your way through!
The Stage will rotate in the direction that you move the Stick in.
This will cause the ball to roll in the same direction.
Move the Stick in the opposite direction to tilt the Stage back and slow the ball to a halt.
Be careful as you won’t be able to make sudden stops, so try your best not to fall.
Zip around using Spin Dash!
Holding down the Spin Dash button allows you to build up momentum. Tilt the Stick in the direction you want to move and let go of the Spin Dash button to send yourself hurtling down the Stage at tremendous speed.
The gauge on the lower-right corner of the screen shows how strong your Spin Dash will be.
Once you master it, you’ll be able to race through Stages at lightning-fast speeds and take huge leaps off ramps and ledges!
Gather as many bananas as you can!
Tons of bananas are scattered throughout each level.
The more you pick up, the more points you’ll earn.
When playing in Local Multiplayer, Online Play, and Local Communication, points will be awarded based on the number of bananas collected by all players!
Reach the goal before time runs out!
If you make it to the goal in time, you’ll clear the Stage! However, if time runs out, it’s game over!
Pause Menu
Press / to open up the Pause Menu.
From there, you’ll be able to access the Game Menu and the Help Menu.
Game Menu
Continue
Closes the Pause Menu and resumes gameplay.
Restart
Lets you try a Stage again from the beginning.
View Stage
Lets you see the full layout of the current Stage.
View Missions
Allows you to examine the Missions available on the current Mode or Stage.
Leave Stage
Lets you leave the game and return to the Stage Select menu.
Help Menu
How to Play
Lets you view the controls.
Options
Allows you to adjust the settings to your preferences. (You can also adjust these settings from the Main Menu.)
Use Helper Functions
Enables the use of the following features to assist you throughout the level. Note, your clear time will not be saved and you won’t earn any clear points.
● Rewind
Push to display a slider that will pause the game.
You'll be able to rewind time by adjusting the slider.
Finally, push the button again to resume when you find the part you'd like to redo.
● Route Guide
Helps you navigate the course with visual markers that provide directions and hints.
● Ghost Guide
Spawns a ghost guide that shows you how to clear the Stage!
● Checkpoint
Enables checkpoints on select Stages.
Once you pass a checkpoint, you’ll be able to restart from that area if you fall off the Stage or run out of time.
Mark as Cleared
Spend points to mark the current Stage as cleared.
Bear in mind, you won’t have a clear time or be able to earn any clear points.
Photo Mode
By pushing / on the Pause Menu, you can activate Photo Mode, which will let you adjust the monkeys’ expressions, frame, and other visual effects when using the screenshot feature on the Nintendo Switch™.
Battle
Compete against other players in a bunch of fun game modes.

Match Setup
Player 1 chooses the Rules, Stage, and number of CPU opponents.
In the meanwhile, other players will have the opportunity to change their character.
Once Player 1 selects “Start Game,” the Battle will begin.
✼ The characters used by the CPU will be chosen at random.
✼ In Local Multiplayer, up to eight players or CPU opponents can participate in Battle.
Checking the Controls and Rules
Select “!” on the screen to view explanations about each mode’s rules and items. Brush up your game by reading up on the rules here!
You can also find these explanations mid-game by choosing How to Play on the Pause Menu.
Race
Make a dash for the goal—the first one to reach it wins! If you fall off the course, you’ll restart from the last checkpoint you passed.
Banana Hunt
Collect as many bananas as you can! Keep an eye out for Banana Clouds, which rain lots of Banana Bunches.
In the last 30 seconds of the match, Fever Time will kick in and Banana Bunches will start showing up!
Ba-BOOM!
Pass the bomb to your opponents before it explodes!
You’ll get points if you’re not holding a bomb at the end of a round.
The player with the most points after all five rounds will be crowned the winner!
Goal Rush
Compete for the most team points by rolling through goals! The number above each goal indicates how many points they’re worth. If you pass through a goal, it’ll change to your team’s color.
You can earn bonus points by rolling though a goal with your team color!
At the end of the match, each team will be awarded 50 points for each goal that’s their color!
Robot Smash
As a team, rack up as many points as you can by ramming into robots!
Your speed and weight will determine how much damage you do and how many points you earn!
Destroying a robot will give you a ton of points.
Each robot you destroy fills up your Team Gauge. Once it’s full, Bonus Time will begin!
Online Play
Adventure and Battle can be played online.
✼ A subscription to Nintendo Switch Online is required for Online Play.
Adventure
You can dive into a World with up to three other players.
Upon clearing a Stage, you’ll be awarded bonus points. Additionally, if a person clears a Stage Mission, then it counts as cleared for everyone.
✼ You can only select Worlds that all players have unlocked in Single Player.
Play with Friends
● Create Room
Create a room with an automatically generated six-character password.
● Join Room
Join a room hosted by another player using a password.
Upon entering, you’ll be brought to the matchmaking screen where each player’s name will be displayed. Once everyone has gathered, you’ll be able to choose a World and start playing.
Play with Random People
You’ll first need to choose a room to join from the list of available options.
If you want to look for a certain type of room, try using the Search Rooms function!
Choosing Create a Room will make you the host of a newly created room.
While you wait for other players to join, you can play in a special stage to warm up!
Battle
Battle Mode can be played online!
✼ If you are playing from a single Switch console with another player, you won’t be able to choose Battle Mode.
Battle Friends
● Host a Battle with Friends
Create a room with an automatically generated six-character password.
● Join a Battle with Friends
Join a room hosted by another player using a password.
Upon entering, you’ll be brought to the matchmaking screen where each player’s name will be displayed. Once everyone has gathered, choose a World, Stage, and the number of CPU opponents to start playing.
Battle Random People
Get ready to rumble against 15 other players! While you wait, you can play in a special stage to warm up!
If there aren’t enough players available, the remaining spots will be filled by CPU opponents.
● Versus Level
You will be matched against players with a similar Versus Level.
The more you play, the more points you’ll earn, increasing your Versus Level!
Chat Wheel
While you’re playing or on the matchmaking screen, you can communicate with other players using stickers, messages, and emotes!
Hold down 
to bring up the Chat Wheel. Tilt towards the option you want to use, and let go of to use it.
You can customize your Chat Wheel through the Chat Wheel menu in Options.
Removing Players
The host has the ability to kick a player out of the room by pushing / .
✼ You can remove players and use the Chat Wheel in Local Communication too!
